KEY HIGHLIGHTS

The PCI-DAS6000 Series of multifunction data acquisition (DAQ) boards offer higher sample rates compared to other multifunction PCI boards. Features include analog input, digital I/O, and counter functions, 12- or 16-bit resolution, and sample rates up to 1 MS/s. Up to two analog outputs are available.

The very user friendly software and stable hardware with great usability

The card is excellent, and i have been using it from last many years. The only draw back is i have not found win7 or higher windows drivers for it.

Hello - Universal Library & InstaCal was updated for in 2010 for Win7 (version 6.10). In 2012 Win8.0 support was added (version 6.25). And very recently (version 6.32) Win 8.1 support was added.

Decade plus, countless cards used!

I have used this PCI-DAS6033 card for more than a decade, mostly for my two largest clients (contractors for DOE.) In-fact, have lost count how many of these we have deployed now. I use these in large data-intensive mobile systems that are in harsh environments by every definition! The quality and performance of this product is outstanding, without reservation. We have never had a failure, with the only exception of direct lightening strikes (one of the deployments is connected to kilometers of cables, and it honestly takes a direct hit to even phase this card.) The card has done very well even in countless local storms without a hitch, high-heat, high vibration in mining and nuclear industrial sites, and even acidic environments (not that I'd push that intentionally!) I cannot say enough good about this product! The software drivers are intuitive, absolutely stable (another rare gift!) easy to get my software and other subsystems working fast. Repeatability, which is one of our most important criteria in the data we collect, is outstanding, with only a minimal amount of signal conditioning. Accuracy is outstanding as well, and the speed of the card is perfect for anything within it's specified parameters. Past experience has also shown, it can run fine in most applications with no additional conditioning! I would also like to add, I have used MC's tech support several times over the years, and I can honestly say, I have never worked with a company that can get me connected so fast to a serious engineer who knows what's going on! (That is rare, to find someone at my own level ;-) Great work all around guys! MC is the best hands down!

Great DAQ Product and Support

I returned a similar product by a different manufacturer due to problems integrating it with existing programming. In the process of ordering a different product, I called MCC's tech suport to make sure the product I chose would work in my application. The applications engineer recommended I purchase this DAQ board instead, and I am very pleased with the recommendation. Not only does the 6033 board work as expected, it is very user friendly and configurable in InstaCal. The support I recieved was great. I didn't have to wait on hold for long, and the representative I spoke to was very knowledgeable and helpful. Far and away the best experience I have had in choosing hardware for a DAQ project.

Good Board for the Price

I have used several Measurement Computing boards in the past. This is the first time I am using PCI-DAS6013. My experience with this board has been very good so far. Excellent board for the price.

Required software needed to run system needs refinement.

If you install the software and hardware as recommended, and you don't ever need to make hardware changes to your system like move the board to a different slot, then you will find this to be adequate. When you move the board, nothing you wrote will work and you will have to run the InstaCal software again and it will delete the configuration you want and force you to re-add the board again. You can only load a board again from the preselected list and the PCI-DAS6014 is not in the list (neither is the PCI-DAS6013). If you still have the disk around that you installed from, you might be able to salvage your work by reloading everything. Hopefully you are using the same motherboard and CPU or timing issues will come in to play on what you previously wrote. It seems that the software needs to be more refined. If it knows that you moved it to new slot, then it should give you options to move it in software rather than reconfigure. When you test the channels, it can turn stuff on but the test can't turn things off so be sure you don't have it hooked up to something that you don't wanted started. The software should have a feature to turn off the board during testing.

Very good product

I have used the PCI-DAS6013 on 6 machines that I have been involved in building and all cards of this type that I have installed have worked well. They are easy to install and I have not had any failures. My use has been limited to measuring DC to 2000 samples per second. On the few occasions that I have needed to call tech support the response has always been courteous and helpful and I have not needed to attempt to communicate with a computer.

That driver is written by The Mathworks. After looking at their list of supported models, the PCIM-DAS1602/16 model seems like the best alternative.

Hello - For MCC PCI boards, if the same model board is swapped into the same PCI slot, the PC should not know the difference. As you have described in your case, your PC does detect a difference. Thus the conclusion is that one PCI board is bad. Field repair is not possible. If you are outside of the USA, you must contact the MCC distributor in your country, for RMA assistance. PCI DAS 6013 card is connected to PC and checked the connectivity in My Computer manager, PC is unable to detect the drivers of the card even though the path is selected. This activity has been done in another PC, same problem is being faced.

Assuming you have ruled out mechanical fit/mating between the board and the PCI bus, then the other two possible causes are: Having the incorrect driver, or that the board requires repair. In the case of the driver, install InstaCal before plugging in the board. Version 6.10 or later is required for Win7. If the board shows up as an unknown device in the device manager of Windows, delete the device from the device manager, and then reboot the PC.

Hi I am having to recalibrate DAS6025 board repeatedly. This is in a university lab situation with 8 computers. The same experiment repeated by multiple students during the day. When the computers are re-started the setting is lost. Is there a way to avoid repeated re-calibration?

Answers

The calibration constants are stored on the board itself, and are not known to be lost when powered down. If you are using any of our Windows software, you should not need to re-calibrate. Perhaps you are not talking about measurement accuracy (calibration), but instead are talking about needed to run the device discovery/configuration program that is named InstaCal? That may be a “write rights” issue, for the folder location where InstaCal stores the CB.CFG text file that it creates. is there any protection resistor on the outputs of the 8255 of pcidas-6025 ? Assume tht one wrongly configures one of FIRSTPORTA I/O bits as an output while it is physically connected to an 5V input. Is there any risk to damage the card.

Answers

There is no added protection for the digital output on the PCI-DAS6025. The 82C55 interfaces directly to the outside world. An accidental connection of a digital output bit to a 5 volt source could cause irreparable damage to the 82C55 chip.

Hello krljanac - From a measurement I/O perspective, the PCI-DAS6032 is recommended as the best fit for replacing the CIO-DAS802, but the PCI-DAS6032 does not have a 37-pin connector, nor do we offer a “50/100 to 37” connector converter adapter. You will have to make your own adapter (you could use bare wires and a CIO-MINI37).

Hello, I read the manual of PCI DAS6036 which I use for data acquisition. As far as I understood with InstaCal software this board calibrates itself without any extra undertaking. But there is a paragraph called Calibration theory which mentions about trim DAC coarses, refernce calibration ect. I just wonder is that info for explaining how auto-calibration works in circuit level or do I need to do anything else to perform calibration? One other thing is that many years ago some other person was using this board and I saw some calibration certificates for this board. I just want to be sure whether I need any extra effort to calibrate this board such as applying reference voltage, freq, ect? Kind Regards, Mete

Hello The factory calibration of a PCI-DAS6000 board involves three steps: 1.) Measure on-board references, and store their values in the board’s EEPROM 2.) Run the InstaCal self-calibration, which takes the on-board references and routes them into channel 0, resulting in gain & offset correction factors being stored for each range into the board’s EEPROM. This is a “hands-free” step, requiring no external equipment or signals. 3.) Accuracy is verified by connecting known signals. Later, in the field, if InstaCal’s self-calibration is run, the gain & offset correction factors will be adjusted slightly. The self-calibration effectively adjusts slightly for the environment temperature, and is not needed to meet spec for the period of time covered by the cal cert. In your case, it sounds like the board is number of years old, and its original cal cert has expired. You could have the board returned to our factory for re-calibration for a fee. You could also perform step B (after full warm-up) and then check the accuracy yourself (step C) to determine if the accuracy on the range(s) you use still meet your accuracy needs.
